The first step
AFF (Accelerated Freefall) Ground School is your first step to becoming a skydiver. A day of theory delivered on our premises that will provide all the information required for you to confidently take on your first level of AFF.
Topics covered include equipment, aircraft, freefall body position, parachute deployment, landing, and emergency procedures.
Ground School may feel a bit like information overload, but rest assured it is designed to show you the ropes and lay down important foundations. All information taught during Ground School is positively affirmed and reiterated during the practical training of the AFF Course.
Ground Schools are held once a month on a Friday, starting at 8.30am. It is a full day (6 - 8 hrs).
Ground school dates can change due to other events and instructor avalibility.

We offer ground schools once a month on a Friday. However, if that doesn’t work for you, get in touch to see if an alternate date ground school can be arranged. These are only available on weekdays and have an additional cost.

Learn to Skydive
Full AFF Course + First Solo
Kick off your skydiving journey with us at Taupō Sport Skydivers. This is the initial commitment that you’ll make to learn to skydive.
This includes:
- AFF Ground School
- 1 x TAFF Level 1 (Tandem jump)
- 2 x AFF levels 2 - 3 (2 x Instructor jumps)
- 5 x AFF Levels 4 - 8 (Single instructor jumps)
- 1 x AFF 9+ Solo Student Skydive.
*Additional fee if it is an alternate date ground school - $500.00

Learn to Skydive with an alternate date AFF ground school
If the scheduled monthly ground school does not work for you, get in touch to see if a ground school course can be arranged on an alternate date. Only one alternate date ground school is usually offered per month and is only available midweek, weekends are kept for skydiving.
*The alternate date fee is per person.

Repeat AFF Levels
If the objective of the skydive level is not met, then you will need to repeat the level until the passing criteria is achieved so that you can competently progress to the next level.
TAFF level 1 orientation skydive (Tandem) $329 each

AFF 9+ (solo student skydive) Endorsement coaching
Solo skydive for students that have successfully completed AFF. This includes all gear rental, parachute packing, and instructor supervision.

A Endorsement coaching
In these jumps you will be with a coach and learn skills that give you the ability to skydive successfully and safely with other licensed skydivers. There are 6 coaching jump levels, you must successfully complete all the tasks in these levels to complete your A Endorsement coaching.

Parachute packing course
In this course you will learn how to pack a main parachute. Being able to pack your own parachute gives you a more in depth understanding of your equipment. This course takes the best part of a day and is a great thing to do on a bad weather day.

NZPIA Fees
The New Zealand Parachute Industry Association is the governing body that issues skydiving licenses in New Zealand. Listed are the items that you will need to purchase relevant to your training and obtaining an A Endorsement.

Refresher Training
As a student skydiver you need to jump at least 1 time per month to maintain currency.

More than 6 months you will be required to sit in again on a full ground school.

Uncurrent and not skydived with us before, you will be required to sit in on a full ground school.
* If the group groundschool date does not suit then contact us to see if we can schedule an alternate date session.
** This refresher training covers ground refresh work, any instructional skydives required are to be paid additionally.

Indication of prices after achieving an A Endorsement.
Jump ticket
Solo skydive to 12,000ft or 15’000ft above ground level. Once you are licensed this is what you will pay for a skydive.

Purchase 10 jump tickets at once and get them for $60 per jump. These tickets are valid for exit altitudes upto 15000ft.

Full Course Cost
The following is an indication of the total minimum costs to achieve a NZPIA A endorsement. These costs do not include repeat levels.
